teen & Adolescent Therapy

(Ages 14-17)

Teenagers today are carrying a lot. Academic pressure, social stress, identity questions, family tension, and the constant noise of an always-online world. It adds up. Even teens who seem like they're holding it together can feel overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted beneath the surface.

Sometimes it shows up as irritability or withdrawal. Sometimes it's burnout, panic, or a quiet sense of not feeling good enough. Sometimes it's hard to name at all.

Therapy gives teens a space that's genuinely theirs - confidential, judgment-free, and separate from the pressures of school, home, and friendships. A place to figure out what they're actually feeling and what they actually need.

TEEN therapy may help with:

  • Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm

  • Depression or emotional shutdown

  • Academic pressure and burnout

  • Perfectionism and fear of failure

  • Self-esteem and identity exploration

  • Peer relationships and social anxiety

  • Family conflict and communication

  • Life transitions and future uncertainty

  • Grief or difficult life experiences

What therapy looks like at this age

Therapy for teens is primarily conversation-based, though the pace, style, and focus are always shaped by what the individual teen needs. There's no agenda to push or script to follow. Sessions are guided by what your teen wants to work on and what feels most useful to them.

Some teens come in eager to talk. Others need a few sessions to warm up or figure out what they even want to say. Both are completely normal.

Sessions may include:

  • One-on-one conversation in a confidential space

  • Processing emotions, stress, and difficult experiences

  • Building coping strategies for anxiety, overwhelm, or low mood

  • Exploring identity, values, and sense of self

  • Improving communication in relationships

  • Setting goals and building toward independence

How Therapy Can Help

PROCESSING WHAT’S HARD TO SAY OUT LOUD

Teens often carry things they don't feel they can share with parents, friends, or anyone who knows them. Having a space to say the hard things can be genuinely relieving and clarifying.

MANAGING STRESS, ANXIETY, & OVERWHELM

The pressures teens face today are real and relentless. Therapy helps them understand what's driving their stress, develop practical coping tools, and feel more in control of their own emotional experience.

BUILDING A STRONGER SENSE OF SELF

Adolescence is fundamentally about identity. Figuring out who you are, what you value, and where you belong. Therapy provides a steady, supportive space to explore those questions without pressure or judgment.

A note for parents

You're part of this too. Parents can be as involved as feels right and we'll work with you to figure out what that looks like for your family. Some parents want regular check-ins; others prefer to stay more in the background and let their teen lead. Both are valid, and we'll follow your teen's clinical needs and your family's preferences.

What tends to be most helpful at this stage is trusting the process, even when it's hard not to know exactly what's being talked about. Your teen knowing their space is private is often what makes them willing to use it. And a teen who's actually engaging in therapy is the best update you can get.

If you have questions about what parent involvement looks like or want to talk through whether therapy might be a good fit for your teen, we'd love to connect.
